Acne Reduction & Treatment
< Back to Dermatology & Laser Center
Acne is a term for plugged pores
(blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and deeper lumps (cysts or
nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and
even the upper arms. Typically acne usually begins in puberty, but it
is not restricted to any age group. Young children, adults in their
20s, 30s and 40s can get acne.
Acne Reduction and Treatment
Establish a
regular cleansing routine of cleansing the face twice a day to help
prevent acne. Gently wash the skin with a mild cleanser that will
exfoliate (remove dead cell layers) and help unclog the pores. Use a
mild astringent and an oil-free moisturizer. Topical benzoyl peroxide
and salicylic acid products are available without a prescription and
are known to improve acne. Antibiotics taken orally are often
prescribed for moderate or severe cases. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is
used for more stubborn and cystic acne. To prevent scarring from
acne, seek treatment early and do not pick the skin.
Rosacea Treatments
Rosacea may have an acne component (acne
rosacea) and include persistent redness of the face, neck, and
chest. Combination treatments of medication, facials, and laser
procedures effectively reduce the condition. We successfully
